do you remember the night I proposed?
dressed in my finest thrift store clothes
with a bottle of champagne in my backpack
riding around
while we were out for a meal
some shithead decided to steal
the front light of off your bike outside the restaurant

I wanted to go for a ride in the park
but at that hour it was getting pretty dark
being the better cyclist
gave you my light with one request:

as we travel on this path

we peddled down by the lake
I knew it was not a mistake
you were cranky earlier when you were hungry

and I pulled out the box

you know I just peed on that tree."

that sparkling wit I so admired
not to be outdone, I inquired
would you make me the happiest
